Farm Pantry

A farm pantry is essential to any country house. When you grow your own vegetables and fruits, canning saves your hard work from spoiling before you can eat it.

Acidic fruit, such as strawberries, are the easiest to can or preserve. We preserve strawberries, raspberries, and our favorite fall fruit apples dishes spiced apple slices and applesauce. You can save the canned fruit and preserves to use through winter on their own or added to other recipes for flavor.

One of my favorites is to add strawberry preserves from our garden to our homemade marshmallows to make strawberry marshmallows, they are great, and the kids love them!!!

Pickling your garden vegetables keeps them around for a while and taste wonderful. Pickling is fun and versatile. We not only pickle the traditional cucumbers but also onions, peppers, carrots. I have to admit pickled onions are my favorite!!!
